About Aster Data
Aster Data is a market leader in big data analytics, enabling the powerful combination of cost-effective storage and ultra-fast analysis of new sources and types of data. Teradata Aster MapReduce Platform is an analytic platform - a massively parallel software solution that embeds MapReduce analytic processing with data stores for deeper insights on new data sources and types to deliver new analytic capabilities with breakthrough performance and scalability.
Aster Data's solution utilizes Aster Data's patented SQL-MapReduce® to parallelize processing of data and applications and deliver rich analytic insights at scale.
Companies including Barnes & Noble, Intuit, LinkedIn, Akamai, and MySpace use Aster Data to deliver applications such as digital marketing optimization, social network and relationship analysis, and fraud detection and prevention.
The company was founded by three colleagues in the Ph.D. Computer Science program from Stanford University. Mayank Bawa, Vice President, Development, focused on algorithm design for querying large distributed data systems. Tasso Argyros, Vice President, Marketing and Product Management, investigated network and software issues involved in the design and implementation of large-scale data clusters. George Candea focused on high-availability technologies for large-scale computer systems.
The leading insights resulting from this research combined to form the foundation for Aster's architecture, that simultaneously optimizes across the three dimensions of scalability, performance and manageability. With Aster, systems are as easy to operate at 300 nodes managing hundreds of terabytes as at 3 nodes managing hundreds of gigabytes.
