Aster Data Introduces New Cloud Solution for Data Warehousing and Advanced Analytics

Cloud Offering Delivers Aster Data’s Solution on Dell’s New High-Performance Servers

San Carlos, CA – April 26, 2010 – Aster Data, a proven leader dedicated to providing the best data management and processing platform for big data and analytically-intensive applications, today announced it has developed a joint solution with Dell to help customers rapidly deploy and scale big data warehouses and advanced analytics. The offering combines Aster Data’s advanced MPP data warehouse for data management and analytics processing with Dell’s leading cloud infrastructure solutions and services, including Dell’s new PowerEdge-C line of servers. Aster Data’s new cloud solution will run on Dell’s new PowerEdge-C 2100 servers that are optimized for high-performance analytics and data management. The new cloud solution will enable advanced data management and analysis including on-demand scaling for large data volumes, high performance analytics on large data sets, and enterprise-class performance and availability critical to cloud deployments.

“The combination of Aster Data nCluster and Dell’s cloud infrastructure is a winning combination for customers who want to manage and analyze their data without assuming the responsibility that otherwise comes with deploying and managing a data warehouse and advanced analytics internally,” said Andy Rhodes, director of Dell’s Data Center Solutions Group. “Aster Data has a proven track record of helping customers get the most out of their big data in the cloud and we look forward to working with them to make customers’ big data cloud deployments a success.”

The first vendor to bring In-Database MapReduce to the cloud as well as the platform underpinning the cloud’s largest data warehouse deployment, Aster Data enables companies to gain deeper insights from their data with advanced in-database analytics and flexible deployment options for large-scale data warehousing. With In-Database MapReduce, customers access in-database analytics through standard SQL. Through the Aster Data Analytic Foundation, a suite of unique pre-packaged analytics functions, Aster Data nCluster Cloud Edition customers have access to advanced analytics such as sequential pattern analysis, which yields deeper behavioral and event analysis for improved click-stream analysis, ad targeting, fraud detection, and more. Aster Data Analytic Foundation includes 15+ such ready-to-use analytics modules targeting key applications across retail, telco, financial services, Web 2.0 companies, and government agencies.

Aster Data’s solution was chosen for joint development with Dell for many reasons, including:

  • Online Precision Scaling™:  Enables fast, cost-effective data scaling with no downtime necessary. As data volumes grow the environment can be scaled up within hours leveraging Aster Data’s unique scaling architecture and point-and-click scaling solution.
  • Always-On Data Cloud:  Aster Data’s unique ‘always-on’ architecture enables all key operations to run in parallel providing uninterrupted query and analytics processing.  Data and analytics scaling, backups, application processing and all critical operations can be run in parallel providing Aster Data and Dell customers with 24x7 data and application availability.
  • High Performance, Next-generation Analytics: Aster Data’s platform uniquely enables high performance, advanced analytics enabling faster, richer insights on terabytes to petabytes of data.  Key to this is Aster Data’s patent-pending SQL-MapReduce analytics framework that eases development of advanced analytic applications and delivers deep business insights in minutes to seconds for highly complex, diverse analytics. Aster Data and Dell customers can now easily migrate or deploy new advanced analytic applications on Aster Data’s massively-parallel data warehouse platform hosted on the Dell PowerEdge-C servers.

The Aster Data solution is critical to today’s businesses that are experiencing massive data growth and are in need of advanced analytics to power their data-driven applications and drive deep business insights.

“With the volume of data in enterprises doubling every 18 months, rich and ultra-fast analysis on tens and hundreds of terabytes to petabytes of data has become a necessity,” said Mayank Bawa, CEO of Aster Data. “The combination of Dell and Aster Data will enable customers to focus on advancing their business with deep insights achievable through Aster Data’s data management and next-generation analytics platform rather than spending the time and capital on building and managing the infrastructure themselves.”

Aster Data is the first massively-parallel data warehouse architecture that allows analytic applications to be fully embedded inside the system, allowing advanced data analysis on terabytes to petabytes of data. This 'advanced in-database analytics' breakthrough coupled with Aster Data's innovations in data warehousing such as dynamic mixed workload management, one-click scaling, online backup, and data compression, has accelerated demand for Aster Data's solution across organizations struggling with managing and analyzing vast amounts of data. Aster Data also provides the only MPP data warehouse solution that also offers deep analytics capabilities through the power of ‘In-Database MapReduce’ combined with the familiarity of SQL making it far easier for companies to leverage the powerful MapReduce framework for high performance, unlimited-scale analytics on very large data sets. Aster Data's customers span financial services, retail, telecommunications, government agencies, and Internet companies who use Aster Data's nCluster solution for their advanced analytic applications on big data.
