Aster Data and Cloudera Partner to Couple Industry-leading Analytical Database and Hadoop Solutions
New Relationship Delivers on Shared Vision of Large-Scale Data Analytics
San Carlos, CA - October 5, 2010 - Aster Data, a market leader in big data management and advanced analytics, and Cloudera, a leading provider of Hadoop-based data management software and services, today announced an agreement that unites Aster Data nCluster, the industry’s first massively parallel (MPP) database with an integrated analytics engine, with Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop (CDH), the most comprehensive Apache Hadoop-based platform in the industry. Together, these two leaders in analytical data warehousing and Hadoop are joining forces to deliver a joint solution that allows customers to both capture 100% of their data and structure it for deeper analytical insights to their business. Customers can now leverage industry-leading MPP platforms for big data processing, management, and analytics across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured formats to analyze large volumes of detailed data and deliver new classes of highly advanced analytic applications to gain deeper business insights.
Together the two companies meet the needs of different users and come together to enable different classes of analytics, including systematic batch data processing coupled with frequent, iterative analysis. Customers can easily accomplish sophisticated data exploration, modeling, and transformation in CDH and then load the data into Aster Data’s solution for fast, interactive, and highly advanced analytics. Data scientists and other users can choose the method of analysis that best suits them. Developer-centric users can leverage the flexibility they require with CDH, while analyst-centric users can take advantage of Aster Data’s SQL and SQL-MapReduce interface, business intelligence (BI) tools support, linear scaling and the fast, interactive response and dynamic workload management of Aster Data nCluster. Customers deploying both technologies gain a competitive advantage to tackle big data sets that has not been previously available.
As an example retailers can use CDH and Aster Data nCluster together to expand their range of data analysis capabilities. They would use CDH to capture web, application, and search logs for long running and large-scale processing to analyze yearly and seasonality trends. They can then load data into Aster Data nCluster for high-speed analysis where frequent analytics is done to look for near real-time, daily, or weekly buying patterns and consumer purchasing behavior, resulting from new marketing and sales promotions and run other key time-sensitive business analytics such as cross channel analytics. The combination of CDH and Aster Data's solution provides critical new analytic capabilities enabling far deeper insight into customer behavior and trends that creates a major competitive advantage for any retailer.
Aster Data’s latest release, Aster Data nCluster 4.6, includes a column data store, making it the first platform with a unified SQL-MapReduce analytical framework on a hybrid row and column MPP database management system (DBMS). The unified SQL-MapReduce analytic framework and Aster Data’s suite of 1000+ MapReduce-ready analytic functions, deliver a substantial breakthrough in richer, high performance analytics on large volumes of structured and semi-structured data stored in either a row or column format. Integrated with Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop, customers can now easily capture raw, unstructured data for modeling and transformation, and load it in a high-speed, massively-parallel fashion into Aster Data where this now-structured data can be quickly and interactively analyzed on a near real-time basis for faster insights to the business.
“Our customers leverage Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop to process enormous amounts of data and transform it into something usable by other systems and analytical users. Our partnership with Aster Data makes it easier for customers to get enhanced value more quickly from their data with tight coupling of best-of-breed MPP solutions for data processing, data management, and advanced analytics together as one enterprise-grade solution,” said Michael Olson, chief executive officer, Cloudera. “The market has been asking for the joint benefit of these market-leading technologies, and today, we are excited to announce this partnership.”
“Customers are already successfully using Aster Data’s and Cloudera’s solutions together,” said Quentin Gallivan, chief executive officer, Aster Data. “This partnership allows us to bring even deeper value to other organizations looking to manage diverse data types and drive advanced analytic applications using both platforms. The combination is a powerful one that will drive even bigger breakthroughs in advanced analytics.”
Cloudera is building a massively parallel, two-way connector for high-speed movement of data between CDH and Aster Data nCluster, which will be commercially available and supported as part of Cloudera Enterprise. Under the agreement between the two companies, in addition to technical integration and certification, Aster Data and Cloudera will work together on joint sales and go-to-market activities.
Aster Data will also be exhibiting at the upcoming annual Hadoop World conference on October 12, 2010 in New York City. For more information on Aster Data, please visit http://www.asterdata.com/ or call 1.888.Aster.Data (US) or +1.650.232.4400 (INTL).
