Aster Data Ranked #7 on Wall Street Journal's Top 50 Venture-Backed Companies List

Leader in Big Data Management and Analytics Selected as 'Next Big Thing' from Over 10,000 Companies Evaluated

San Carlos, CA – March 14, 2011 – Aster Data, a market leader in large-scale data management and advanced analytics on diverse data, today announced that the Wall Street Journal has ranked the company as #7 on its list of top 50 venture capital-backed companies.

Announced in The Wall Street Journal’s “Next Big Thing List,” Aster Data was selected from a pool of more than 10,000 U.S.-based companies and ranked based on the successful track record of its founders, management team and investors, the amount of capital raised in the last three years, and the percentage change in the company's valuation in the last year.

According to Deputy Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal, Alan Murray, “The Next Big Thing highlights companies that we believe are worth watching and have a chance to make waves in their industry.”

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the most promising venture-backed companies in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal, reflecting the strength of our team and our growth over the past year,” said Quentin Gallivan, chief executive officer of Aster Data. “We are passionate about helping our customers harness and analyze diverse data to gain faster, deeper insights on their customers and business events.”

To be eligible for the ranking, according to The Wall Street Journal’s Top 50 Venture-Backed Companies article, the publication leveraged research firm VentureSource, a unit of The Wall Street Journal owner News Corp., to select 50 out of 5,743 privately held, venture-backed companies in the U.S. with the greatest potential. The list is drawn from the approximately 10,600 U.S.-based, privately held venture-backed companies in the VentureSource database as of Nov. 30, 2010.
