Redwood City, Calif. – November 13, 2006 – Aster Data Systems, a Silicon Valley based company addressing fast growing data environments by transforming off-the-shelf, commodity hardware into a powerful, self-managing, and scalable analytic database,  announced that it has appointed Dr. Armando Fox and Dr. Hector Garcia-Molina to its technical board of advisors. 

Dr. Armando Fox is a co-founder of the Reliable Adaptive Distributed Systems Laboratory at UC Berkeley.  Previously he was the Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University.  His recent collaboration with David Patterson on Recovery-Oriented Computing earned him the distinction of being included in the “Scientific American 50” of 2003.  He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award, as well
as teaching awards from Stanford University, the Society of Women Engineers, and Tau Beta Pi.

Dr. Hector Garcia-Molina is the Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Previously he was the Chairman of the Computer Science Department from January 2001 to December 2004. From 1997 to 2001, he was a member of the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC). Dr. Garcia-Molina is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; is a member of the National Academy of Engineering; and the recipient of the 1999 ACM SIGMOD Innovations Award.
