Aster Data Systems' Mayank Bawa to Speak at Structure ’08 Conference

Redwood City, Calif. – June 24, 2008 – Aster Data Systems, a proven innovator in massively parallel processing (MPP) databases for data warehousing and analytics, today announced that CEO and Co-Founder, Mayank Bawa has been chosen to participate in a key panel session on database analytics at GigaOm’s upcoming Structure 2008 Conference. Mayank joins a panel of leading industry professionals – including senior executives from Cloud9Analytics, Greenplum, SQLstream, TagSchema, Teradata, and Zvents – in a discussion entitled “The Race to the Next Database: Overclocking and Analytics Augment Your Data Layer.” The session, which will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 11:10 a.m. at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, will focus on data storage layers and how organizations can address fast growing data environments.

“We have recognized early on the explosion in data growth that comes with doing business online, and there is no slow down in sight,” said Mayank. "The advantage of driving the performance of one's business via analysis of large volumes of data is a big competitive edge that until now has only been affordable to companies like eBay, Google and Yahoo!," said Mayank. "The need for data-driven business decisions across companies, big and small, will drive the next generation of applications."

Mayank is the CEO and co-founder of Aster Data Systems and graduated with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. As a Stanford Graduate Fellow, Mayank has developed algorithms for querying large distributed data systems. Mayank has a dozen published academic papers on such topics and has been affiliated with IBM Research and Microsoft Research. He received his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay.
