New and lower-cost analytic platforms coupled with increasing data volumes and information sources are driving an explosion of alternatives to the traditional "persist everything in an RDBMS"-based enterprise data warehouse. These analytic platforms employ a wide range of different techniques, technologies and deployment models to support new data sources and usage patterns.
The challenge for customers is how to exploit these new models for business benefit and how to match vendor offerings to any given pattern.
Some clear patterns of usage and strong preferences for key features emerged from a survey and interview series Merv Adrian and Colin White recently conducted. They will describe their findings on use cases, product expectations and effective selection processes in this discussion.
